Subject
An anchor is a fixing to a foundation or structure that is expected to remain secure whilst subjected to one or more loads.
Whilst each applied load may be induced from any distance and angle relative to the anchor location, the anchor is assumed to remain transfixed.
The forces applied to an anchor may be designated vectors according to an x,y,z co-ordinate system acting linearly and proportionally relative to each axis.
Similarly, the moments applied to an anchor may be designated according to the same x,y,z co-ordinate system acting about each axis.
Dependent upon personal or project preferences, the vertical axis may be 'y' or 'z', either orientation requiring different force vectors and giving different results. But, whilst the resultant forces and moments will look different, the assimilated load on the anchor will be identical, irrespective of the co-ordinate system adopted.
Anchor offers the user either co-ordinate system option; 'y-up' or 'z-up', but care must be taken with the input data to ensure that the correct vectors are used. As the user switches between co-ordinate options, the anchor calculator automatically resets the co-ordinate values.
The user may apply up to 10 separate coincident forces to the anchor, each of which may originate at any x,y,z location and any angle relative to the co-ordinate origin (0,0,0).
All ten forces will be resolved and combined to provide an equivalent single force on the co-ordinate origin (0,0,0) in all three directions (x,y,z) along with a single moment about each axis (x,y,z).
