In my project (a jetty) I have to protect the steel piles that are immersed 8 m in the water and about 30 m in the seabed. Which area “A” have I to input in the software? Area of the submerged pile in water (8 m ) + total Area of the pile inside the seabed (30 m)? Is it OK? I think to use segmented bracelets as anodes, because they can be fixed around the pile and have to be updated easily during the lifetime. Is it OK? |
Paragraph 7.5.4 states; “For parts of steel skirts and piles buried in sediments, a design current density (initial/final and average) of 0.020 A/m² is recommended as a conservative approach. Current drain to open pile internals shall cover 10 x diameter”. It is CalQlata’s opinion that any buried depth that excludes exposure to atmospheric (including hydrodynamic) oxygen need not be included in your calculations. This tends to include pile sections buried permanently below 2 metres in marine clay. It does not include silt or sand or variable surface elevations, the buried sections of which should be included in your calculations. Yes! it is ok to use segmented bracelets. Table 6.9.1 “Design Anode Utilization Factors” recommends a utilisation factor of 0.75 for segmented bracelets. |
